Jesús Jiménez, Ph.D.

Professor of Mathematics

Dr. Jiménez earned his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Utah. Prior to doctoral work, he earned an MS and BS in Mathematics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. His specializations are algebraic geometry and cryptology. Dr. Jiménez spends time each summer teaching coding theory and cryptography at the Center for Research in Mathematics at the University of Guanajuato in Guanajuato, Mexico, as well as teaching origami to Chiapas high schoolers using the theorems of geometry. He is also the mathematics placement faculty coordinator for the MICS department.

Dr. Jiménez's research in cryptology and coding theory has contributed to new digital communication technologies at Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR). His research in contractions of nonsingular curves has been presented at several professional conferences and cited in mathematical journals and texts.

In his free time, Dr. Jiménez enjoys cooking and playing volleyball.
